MARSH MARIGOLD ARCH (framed)

£200.00

Handcrafted using a Marsh Marigold picked from a natural pond just beyond the forest cabin at Borradill, this botanical cast captures the distinctive form and fine details of one of Scotland’s earliest spring blooms. Artist Katy Eccles created this piece during her residency at Borradill, selecting plant specimens from the surrounding woodland and water’s edge to produce a special series of six limited-edition botanical casts exclusive to the location.

Each cast is made entirely by hand using a unique technique that preserves the delicate textures and organic shapes of natural plant life. The Marsh Marigold’s vibrant, rounded form was first pressed into clay, then cast in plaster to create a lasting botanical impression. Each cast is exclusive to Borradill and reflects the distinct character of its landscape.

Casts are available either unframed (with a built-in hanging device) or professionally framed in a choice of Tuscan Red (Little Greene) or Deep Ochre (Miso by Graphenstone) finishes.

Framed: H25 x W19 cm

Unframed: H20 x W14 cm

KATY ECCLES’ TOUR DOCUMENTING THE COAST OF THE BRITISH ISLES

Description from Katy about the collection:

“The idea for this project was inspired by my love of Grand Tour intaglio collections and the practice of young aristocratic men collecting small plaster intaglios on their travels through Europe in the 18th century. These pieces were often mounted in books or cases and displayed as souvenirs of their adventures, showcasing the artworks and decorative objects they encountered along the way.

I’ve decided to embark on my own version of the Grand Tour, focusing on the UK. But rather than following in the footsteps of these aristocratic men, I’m taking a more personal approach, with a focus on female ownership of this tradition. My goal is to capture the flora and fauna of Britain through the art of flower casting, creating a visual record of the seasonal life of the landscapes I visit.”
