OAK OVAL (framed)

£200.00

This botanical cast was created using a naturally fallen oak branch, gathered from the forest floor of the ancient Celtic rainforest that surrounds the cabins at Borradill. Its fine textures – grooved bark, gentle curves, and subtle signs of age – were carefully pressed into clay and preserved in plaster, capturing the quiet strength of this iconic native tree.

Made on site by artist Katy Eccles during her residency at Borradill, the piece forms part of a limited series of six botanical casts created using plant specimens found in the surrounding woodland and along the nearby shoreline. Each cast is exclusive to Borradill and reflects the distinct character of its landscape.

Available unframed (with a hanging device on the reverse) or framed in your choice of Tuscan Red (Little Greene) or Deep Ochre (Miso by Grapehstnoen), chosen to complement the earthy tones and textures of the cast.

Framed: H25 x W19 cm

Unframed: H20 x W14 cm

LEAD TIME: These editions are hand made to order and depending on availability please expect up to a4 week lead time for unframed editions and 6 weeks for framed editions.

KATY ECCLES’ TOUR DOCUMENTING THE COAST OF THE BRITISH ISLES

Description from Katy about the collection:

“The idea for this project was inspired by my love of Grand Tour intaglio collections and the practice of young aristocratic men collecting small plaster intaglios on their travels through Europe in the 18th century. These pieces were often mounted in books or cases and displayed as souvenirs of their adventures, showcasing the artworks and decorative objects they encountered along the way.

I’ve decided to embark on my own version of the Grand Tour, focusing on the UK. But rather than following in the footsteps of these aristocratic men, I’m taking a more personal approach, with a focus on female ownership of this tradition. My goal is to capture the flora and fauna of Britain through the art of flower casting, creating a visual record of the seasonal life of the landscapes I visit.”
