CLAY STORY TILE (GOAT)

These medieval tiles were made from red, local clay, with designs in white slip (liquid clay). Using an iron-rich glaze to give a golden hue, this is exactly the technique used since the Middle Ages.

Richard Moore studied History of Art at the University of Cambridge, and Ceramics at York College. He has been hand-making tiles in a medieval style for 18 years.

13TH AND 14H CENTURY FLOOR TILES REIMAGINED

Hand-drawn in the style of medieval tapestries and tiles, these story tiles retell the legend of Borradill, the 7-foot Viking prince said to have been slain across the water on Morvern by Somelad, leader of the Celts. His body was brought back here to be given a Viking burial, and his grave is believed to lie behind the woods as you walk out onto the moor at Borradill.
